Improved Access

Telemedicine improves Blue-icon 75x65access to patients, and it also allows physicians and health facilities to expand their reach, beyond their own offices.

Improved Outcomes

Gold-icon 75x65

Studies have consistently shown that the quality of healthcare services delivered via telemedicine is as good those given in traditional in-person consolations. Due to better and timely access telemedicine delivers superior services with greater outcomes and patient satisfaction.

Cost Efficiencies

Telemedicine reduces the cost of healthcare and increases efficiency through better management of chronic diseases, shared health professional staffing, reduced travel times, and fewer or shorter hospital stays.

Patient Demand

Blue-icon 75x65

Consumers want telemedicine. The greatest impact of telemedicine is on the patient, their family and their community. Multiple studies have shown patient satisfaction and support for telemedical services. Telehealth services offer patients the access to providers that might not be available otherwise, as well as medical services without the need to travel long distances.

Healthcare and, more specifically, patient care are steeped in traditions based on direct patient interaction, relationship, and emotion. Telemedicine does not seek to remove the human element of care, but rather to make it available more often than providers can afford in face of an ever-increasing demand for care. Thanks to advances in video conferencing technology and data streaming capabilities the human element of care is preserved. Healthcare providers embracing telehealth are ultimately improving patient access and patient security. In studies performed in relation to telemedicine the response from patients was very positive; most stated that they felt a strong sense of security having access to healthcare professionals as needed whenever needed. In a study investigators found that quality of care was highest for patients who received consultation by telemedicine, intermediate for patients who received consultation by telephone and lowest for patients who did not receive consultation. Interstingly, many if not most telehealth interactions are of a quality superior to face-to-face interactions.

The government also recognizes the benefits for telehealth. As of February 2014, 21 states have introduced bills that mandate insurance provider coverage for telemedicine. Medicare and Medicaid cover for telemedicine when the receiving end of the video-care is deemed “rural”.  Furthermore, some insurance companies have already recognized telehealth benefits, and began to offer payment for telemedical services.
